PRIOR PARK SCHOOL, GIBRALTAR
Prior Park School opened its doors for the first time this morning with Headmaster Peter Watts and teachers welcoming the inaugural 60 students to their classrooms.
The school is the first independent, co-educational, senior school in Gibraltar and the fourth in the family of Prior Park Schools, the other three being in south-west England.
Prior Park opens with Years 8, 9 and 10 in its first year with refurbishment work ongoing in part of the school to enable Year 11 and the Sixth Form (Year 12) to open next September.
The premises have been transformed since the former Sacred Heart School occupied the site in Old Town. Renovation work alongside the development of subject specific teaching areas and introduction of 21st century technology has been extensive, however the site retains much of the character of the original building.
Mr Watts commented: “Today sees the culmination of a tremendous amount of hard work, both on the ground here and from Prior Park College in Bath. I would like to thank all those involved but particularly the parents of our students here today, for their invaluable support and faith in the school. I am extremely proud of all that has been accomplished. The real work begins now and I and my team are looking forward to becoming an integral part of the Gibraltar community. Exciting times lie ahead.”
The school will work closely with Prior Park College in Bath, aligning in teaching practises and standards and providing a very British education. The range of activities and opportunities the school aims to provide are extensive, from Algebra to Zumba. Teaching staff has been recruited both locally and internationally.
An official opening of the school will take place in October with The Governor and Bishop in attendance.
Prior Park School will be holding an Open Day on Friday 28 October for prospective parents interested in viewing the school. You can register for this event by emailing Gibraltar@priorparkschools.com
